Winds of Time

I wanted to think and write about this back when it was pre-released, but I was trying to juggle with campaign work and then stuff happened that got me emotionally down. That’s how life is…

I cannot stress how timely this song and its MV came at the time in my life where I’m struggling to hold on. At first listen, the song seems so melancholic and somewhat sad. I don’t know Korean so the only lyrics that struck me was the English chorus.

Everything’s changing
Everything’s changing me
Just to survive
I’m trying and trying
But everything’s changing
And I can’t find my way
You know I’m still in yesterday
But I
I guess I can try

The MV showed handsome oppa boss driving in a rather old car. (The man loves vintage stuff.) Some point at the end, the car breaks down but there’s the family and the girl (the people have some significance but I’m not going to explain it) help him to push and get it going again. I guess physically, it’s to signify that you’ve got your village behind you, supporting you and cheering you on, so you can keep going in life even when it gets tough. Metaphorically, the things that happened in the past and the memories, make up who you are, and these experiences will keep making you stronger to go on. Suddenly, this song seems to feel a little more hopeful.

Not going to lie, with the stuff that has been going on in my life that’s getting me emotionally down, I’ve played this song in the car in the morning when driving back home after dropping the kids off at school. A couple of times, I just let the floodgates open. It’s a good release and helps me keep going even when I’m facing all this shit in my life. Coz no matter how dark things are, light will find its way in, right? When you keep going down, one day you’ll reach the end and things can only go up from there, right?

Another detail that I spotted in the MV but didn’t think too much of until someone in threads pointed it out…

The picture of the bunny hanging from the mirror. I think there’s a clock/watch face hanging there too. A reference to Alice in Wonderland? The white rabbit and his pocket watch…”I’m late! I’m late!”. That got me really excited coz I love Alice in Wonderland.

Sidenote: I would have worn an Alice-related lolita outfit to his concert had he not decided yellow and vintage for the theme. But then again, I’m not going to his concert coz he’s here when I’m away for my family trip. Going to his concert in other countries even in our neighbouring country is not an option for me. It kills me every time I think about this sad fact, but I guess some day…
