pepper keibu

I have to say this coz I just can’t stand it anymore…

I just can’t tahan Koharu. Her dancing is like so forced. Maybe for certain energetic songs that kind of dancing would be ok, but not for a remake of an old song. No doubt the song is kinda lively, but hello, you are dancing to a 经典歌曲, I would expect the dancing to be more fluid. Look at Takahashi Ai’s dancing. She does it perfect.

The song I am talking about is Pink Lady’sペッパー警部“.

fall 2008 semester

Here I am sitting in front of Maru-chan, furiously typing away while stopping at random moments to feed myself some cereal. Yes, cereal is my lunch as I am aiming to lose a bit of weight. So, what happened after I got on the plane back to USA? Did I drop off the face of this Earth? Well, no. I was just trying to get my life back in order. It really feels I’m living 2 lives now. One is when I’m in USA and studying for the sake of a good GPA, and the other is when I’m back at home (Singapore) and lazing about.

As most of you already know, I moved out of Evans Hall and into a graduate hall – Sherman Hall. Oh God, was I disappointed when I opened my room door for the first time. It’s like a prison cell compared to Evans 420, which used to be my spacious lot. My bed is now elevated, like it was in Deary’s ex-dorm room. No help being a short person since I have trouble climbing onto the bed. I have a fridge and microwave now, but that doesn’t console me much since my table is a freakin’ small thing which obviously cannot house both Maru-chan and my printer on its surface. I have to put the printer under the table which is quite a hassle. Well, I guess you win some and you lose some. It’s like a trade-off, no dorm food for a smaller room.

Deary’s apartment is better, but it has its cons. The lighting is BAD. If you want to live with the original lighting, you might as well become a mole. The stupid carbon monoxide alarm is faulty? It goes off after someone has a long and hot bath. Deary bought another alarm and tested it in the house and it was fine. Anyway, I wish I was staying in Daniels Hall coz then I’ll be closer to Deary. Better still, I’m waiting to see what Jordan and Thung Han says about their apartment coz Jordan decided to move out and his room is now vacant.

I spent the last few days getting things done. Buying my textbooks, rearranging my timetable, settling bank stuff etc. I couldn’t get into ECON103, but went for the lecture anyway. Yesterday, I got lucky when someone dropped it, but the discussion slot is at 8am. Why am I plagued with 8am classes EVERY semester? Deary says he doesn’t mind exchanging his discussion slot with me, but that means I’ll have Econs discussion at 10am at Armory. I have class at 11am at Gregory Hall. That gives me only 10 minutes to walk the distance.

Japanese class has started too. We have begun learning hiragana. I’m going to be pretty bored for a few weeks since I already know hiragana and a bit of katakana. Japanese class is a lot stricter than when I learnt the language in TP. Good, coz I really want to learn the language and be able to read and speak it fluently. Class is everyday for 50 minutes and my teacher is Numata sensei.

Other than Macroecons and Japanese, I’m taking EALC305 – Japanese Literature I, ATMS100 – Meteorology, MATH161 – Statistics (same as STAT100).

Ok, more later. I need to go get one more textbook from the bookshop.

farewell again

So, it’s farewell again. 9 months till we see each other again. Met up with the friends I wanted to meet up with.

Poly mates had a farewell gathering for me on Sunday.

They gave me some farewell presents designed by the one and only, Xiuwei aka Mrs Wee. Thank you guys!

More stuff to decorate my room with and serve as motivation for me to work hard. Gonna be busy again when I get back. Moving into new hall, getting some groceries, attending meeting for the food festival, going to corn festival, preparing and helping out at Quad Day…then school starts on Monday. One last thing, cross fingers that there are still slots available for Macroecons.

6 months and on

This is a late post. 15 August 2008. Our half a year together. For the curious, we got together on 15 February 2008. 🙂

I’m not sure, but maybe Deary was dying to tell me the secret. Just like I’m ALWAYS dying to tell him some things although I plan to keep it a secret for the moment and then I finally can’t stand it and I tell. So, the BIG SECRET was he got tickets to go on the Singapore Flyer. Although it seems like a novelty and I know better than to spend on such things, deep inside I am up for such novelties. I thought I’ll just be a so-called swakoo Singaporean and probably have a go at it yonks later. Yea, probably when this thing is no longer a novelty and they decide to lower the price…like the zoo? Haha.

Well, as Pwen said, it’s no big deal. All you see are buildings. BUT, just having the thought of seeing almost the whole of Singapore, the whole of a country at one go, now isn’t that cool? The interior was kinda cool, clean and glassy looking. If not for this Indian family, the whole experience would have been better even if we were sharing the capsule with other people. They were really noisy. Spoiled the whole calm feeling and taking in what you see.

Thank God I wasn’t insistent on eating elsewhere this time when Deary said he wanted to eat at Carl’s Jr. I ordered a Portebello Mushroom burger set which cost me $11.80. Yea, the burgers don’t come cheap, but the difference is you’re paying a premium price for a premium sized burger with a premium quality and taste. It tasted pretty much like BK’s Mushroom Swiss burger except that it was WAY better than the BK burger. BK’s burgers used to be good coz their patties were a lot juicier than other fast food chains, but the standard has dropped through the years. These days, my Mushroom Swiss burger patty seems to be dry and a little chao ta at the edges. 🙁

Our date was rather short, but I enjoyed every moment of it. Thanks Deary for the wonderful surprise.

ugly behaviour

Just read Jo’s post on 3 PRCs displaying ugly behaviour on the MRT.

I need to learn how to take photos without people knowing it. I think I’ll have a huge collection of such photos. What of ‘POLE LEANERS’ (I freakin’ HATE them) and people who just cut your queue. The poles in the MRT are NOT for people to LEAN THEIR WHOLE BODY ON. They are there for people TO HOLD ON while the MRT is moving. And it’s WORSE when these people decide to lean on the pole while someone else’s hand is already there. I met one such ‘pole leaner’ yesterday. I kept quiet coz she was an Indian old lady. If not, I would have said loud enough for her to hear ‘some people have NO BACKBONE’.

People who cut queue? They need a freakin’ twack on the head. I had an urge to do that to this man who tried to squeeze past me while boarding the bus.

my (lousy) banner

This post is so that people know I wasn’t shaking legs during my poly internship. HAHAHA…actually the internship was quite a breeze and I really did spend about 1+ weeks shaking legs. I didn’t shake legs on purpose; they simply didn’t have anything for me to do.

Anyway, I was checking the ICA website some time ago for something for my dad when I got curious and decided to go click on the shipping crew page. Yes, that was what I was doing in NCS, 5 years ago. It was a big secret then since it is part of the government. I got a shock at what I say. THEY ACTUALLY USED MY WORK?! It was just a demo thing to present to the clients; roughly what the website would look like. My colleague who was in charge of the project then told me that I didn’t have to worry too much on the workability of the website since they would get their own designers to work on the real thing later. So, I did my best and didn’t worry too much. They only used my banner…BUT STILL?!

Looking at it now, I’m horrified. It’s such a lousy thing~~~ I didn’t know how to blend images then so all I did was smudge the edges of each image so that they looked like they flowed together. And the background of the banner was just some clicking around and playing with the set effects in Photoshop. Honestly, I got the background by chance. They wanted something watery looking. WAH~~~ WHY~~~

The only thing they changed about the banner was to crop it coz it was much thicker when I did it. The width was probably something like my blog banner. I think they might have resized it a little too coz the quality of the images and logo look a little compromised.

I decided to blog about this afterall since the topic came up at the dinner table again.
