japan trip part two

May 8, 2004 by Elisia

Friday 30 April 10.35am (S)/11.35am (J)

28 April. Mum and Dad went shopping. Had Mac for lunch. Something different, not found in Singapore. Teritama burger. Teriyaki burger with an egg. Waited for Sis to wake up, wash up then we went out.

Back to Shinsaibashi. Wanted to go to the Johnny’s shop.

The building’s gone! The shop may be relocated or doesn’t exist anymore. Anyway, the meikan I have is dated 2001 so I guess it’s very outdated already.

Went walking round. HMV. Wanted to go to the shopping mall that Shinichi took us 2 years ago. The Loft. But couldn’t find it. Didn’t want to wander around for fear of getting lost.

29 April. Went to the Osaka Kaiyukan Aquarium. Again. But this time, the whole family’s here. Went on the giant ferris wheel. Better this time. The last time, the weather was bad so we couldn’t see the whole of Osaka. This time managed to see everything…nightscape.

30 April. The family’s planning to travel to Kobe.

japan trip part one

The past updates you have been waiting for…

Wednesday 28 April 11.48am (Singapore time)/12.48pm (Japan time)

Haha. I haven’t been a faithful blogger. I’m just too lazy to write. Typing is so much faster.

A recap of what’s been going on so far.

25 April. In the wee hours of the morning, watching “Mona Lisa Smile” on the plane. Enjoyed the show. There’s some other great shows but I don’t get to watch all. There’s “Kill Bill” on another channel. Gross. Even the cartoon parts are so gross. But kinda stupid coz blood gushes out like a fountain which is kinda fake.

Can’t sleep. Can’t sleep upright. Feeling so tired but just can’t get a good sleep. After breakfast, I finally get a few minutes of sleep.

Arrive in Osaka. I’m feeling zombified. It feels like those nights where I never sleep ciz I’m chiong-ing some project. Haha…the Kinki Kids advertisement is still there. Different one though. Shinichi receives us. We take a bus to the central part of Osaka.

This time, we aren’t staying in a hotel. Staying in uncle Inada’s house coz their family has moved to stay with Shin and Ken’s grandparents. It’s a small apartment. Sis and I take the couches. Mum and Dad take the floor. Traditional tatami flooring.

Had chicken katsu curry rice for dinner. There’s a mall near the house. People here, travel around on bicycles and trains/subways. Taxi rides are expensive. The starting fare is 660 yen which is around S$10.60. Yes, jaws are dropping.

26 April. Travel to the central. Umeda. Where the major shopping malls are. Hankyu shopping mall. We decide to grab a bite. The whole basement is swarming with people. It’s really noisy. But there’s all sorts of food all round. It’s like Tangs basement or Taka’s basement food area. Except it’s much more. The omu rice stall is gone. But I found another stall that sells omelettes and sells omu rice too.

Went up to the rooftop to eat. The rooftop is like a children’s playground. Lots of amusement rides. Benches at the side. The weather is ok, warm when the sun is shining but a little cold still. Should have brought more tees. It’s still spring that’s why. Late spring. Cherry blossom viewing over.

Singapore has a lot to learn. The department store, on each level there’s a small information counter. The lady manning the counter is so well-dressed. And she stands. She has good attitude, polite and willing to go all out to help each customer. What about Singapore, the lady at the counter sits, doesn’t even stand when there’s a customer. Sometimes even has a bochup attitude. I’m disgusted. However, these counter girls double up as “dian ti xiao jie” too. Meaning they man the lifts too. They announce whether the lift is going up or down and what each floor sells. She presses the lift buttons for you.

Finally! I’m so happy! Got my yukata at last! Was looking for a yellow or pink one but most of them weren’t bright enough. Mum picked out a reddish pink one. Settled for that. The salesgirl taught us how to wear it. Sis picked out a black one. It’s very expensive though. Cost about S$400 for a whole set coz they sell each part seperately. Main yukata, obi and the strings to tie. But it’s a one time investment. Anyway, not I can wear that to Natsu Matsuri. If it weren’t that expensive, I would have considered getting one for Per’s birthday. So we can both wear our yukatas when we attend the Natsu Matsuri.

Went back by subway. Their lines…so many. It’s a little confusing at first but once you get the hang of it, it’s not too bad.

27 April. Explored further. Shinsaibashi. It’s like Orchard Road. All the teenagers hang out here. Went to Daimaru. Mum was looking for some stuff, helping a colleague buy it. Went to Takashimaya too. Wanted to go to Sogo but it’s gone. Under renovation.

Met up with Dad then walked the streets of Shinsaibashi. So colourful at night. All the billboards. Ended up at a restaurant that specially sells crabs. Crab dinner.

panasonic lumix

May 8, 2004 by Elisia

I’ve started watching “Winter Sonata”. Partly influenced after going to Japan. Coz Mr Bae Yong Jun is getting pretty popular in Japan too. They’re showing “Winter Sonata” on tv in Japan. A lot of magazines feature Mr Bae Yong Jun on the cover too. Mum told me bits of the story so I’m kinda curious now.

Shopped for a digicam. Finally settled on this one.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX5. 4.0 megapixels. 3x optical zoom. 3x digital zoom. What attracted me was the optical image stabilizer feature. Good for people with unsteady hands like me.

Mine’s the blue one.

Watched “Van Hellsing” on Thursday with Sis and Desmond. The vampires look kinda disgusting as those flying things. I think the vampires in “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” look better.

Got my results by sms this afternoon. Passed everything. But I won’t say the results are fantastic. Just Bs and C+s. A little disappointed in myself but yea…gotta live with it.

I’m loving my new handphone strap. It’s from the Osaka Kaiyukan (Osaka Aquarium). One of the musts when I went to Japan. To replace the Ayu one.

Back from my trip to Osaka, Japan. Don’t think I played so much till I forgot about you guys ok. I did spend some quiet time reading, thinking and reflecting. It’s when you treasure something so much that you find it hard to forget.

Right now, am trying to adjust back to the weather here which is awfully hot. Trying to update everything. Will post up more stuff later.

WAIT FOR MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…

Another photo competition. It’s by Singnet. Prizes aren’t that great but no harm trying for the love of photography for some of you. Details here.

Hehe…I seem to be promoting photo competitions. Must share the good stuff with you guys what…

I was thinking of getting an mc for today. IN3D progress presentation and I haven’t done much.

But now, I think I’ve changed my mind. No more running away from it. Even if I get an mc, I’m sure I will slack off the whole day. And I really need help with my modelling. I have no freakin idea how to start modelling the snails and the trees. Lots of questions…

Life is full of choices. Each choice we make, we have to face the consequences whether good or bad. I chose to slack therefore now I’m left with the choice to continue slacking or do something fast. The consequence of the former would be to fail and have to retake the subject. The consequence of the latter would be to finish the projects on time and at least pass everything. Elisia…you better choose wisely. Only you know the consequences of your actions.

We made changes to our ER Diagram. Still think there are a few small mistakes but they don’t seem to get what I’m trying to say. Oh well…no time. Just hope the tables can be created and populated with information. And our procedures can be created smoothly.

Hmmm…maybe I’m the one who’s blurz. I can’t really visualise everything. I need to see things in pictures before I understand it fully.

what can go wrong, will go wrong

March 31, 2004 by Elisia

I’m stuck. Help! I don’t know how to begin. I have to model snails and trees. I know I have to use the bevel tool. But the problem is how to start?! I seriously wanna bang my head against the wall. Should have thought of something simpler to model.

This is the problem about relying too much on the lab sheets. Fail le…fail le…*shakes head*

Argh. Hate the school for shortening the semester. Hate myself for slacking so much. All the projects due around the same time.

Thought we completed the ER Diagram for ORDS so more or less done. Who knows…Dennis said we gotta meet tomorrow to re-discuss coz there’s something wrong with our diagram. Dave tried to create the tables and somehow couldn’t drop them coz of the complicated primary keys, foreign keys and what-have-yous.

What can go wrong, WILL go wrong. This is very true.

weekend gone

March 29, 2004 by Elisia

Saturday…managed to go to the Shakespeare play after all. Mum bought tickets again. Still love the play. It’s so hilarious. Of course they changed certain lines to suit the current situation.

After the play, went shopping with Sis and Desmond. Had dinner at Sento.

Sunday…had ORDS group meeting at 3pm in school. Finalise the ER Diagram plus ER Mapping. Although I still feel there are a few errors. Maybe coz I’m not too sure myself.

Left about an hour later. Went to see some houses near Changi Hospital. The one that we all like has finally been sold off. Yep…Mum is pretty much deciding to buy a house if possible.

After that, went to my grandparents house. My grandfather’s 80th birthday. Simple meal.

And there goes my weekend. Didn’t do any work. Dead…so dead…

The good news. Our 7ners blog is up! Thanks to Nad for her designing skills. If the rest of the 7ners are agreeable, I’ll link it up here.

a child’s innocence

March 27, 2004 by Elisia

[edited at 2.13am]
Just heard 2 stray cats downstairs fighting. That’s what the stray cats downstairs my block do. Either they fight or they get horny. Serious.
[edited]

Finally. Took me about 15 minutes to get my computer running ok. Have been restarting it like 6-8 times coz everything loads ok then suddenly the status bar and the icons on my desktop disappear. Crapz. Computer’s getting cranky. I have a good mind to reformat it after this semester ends.

My group finally completed the ER Diagram. Kinda lagging already. That’s why Dennis called for another meeting this Sunday. Heck. I’m like lagging for every project. Slacking too much.

The weather’s been kinda crazy these days. Sunny…sunny…sunny all day then suddenly heavy rain.

Stopped by Tampines library to return some books. Then went grocery shopping. After doing the shopping, while waiting for the lift, this cute little boy was playing with his mother’s sunglasses. He was putting it on then taking it off. Amazed at how he could see although the sunglasses are dark.

He caught me looking at him. And he came up to me offering me his mother’s sunglasses so that I could share his amazement at seeing the world through those dark lenses.

That’s the wonder about a child’s innocence. The world is that simple. Everyone is good. Everything is good. No problems with sharing anything with anyone. *smilez*

Cooked myself a bowl of instant mee with the works. Fishballs, green peas, crabstick, tau pok…in they went. Hmmm…should have cracked an egg too.

Spent a little time yesterday before I went to sleep, working on my new blog layout. If only I have the same drive in doing my projects. Boooooo…

so paiseh

March 26, 2004 by Elisia

Wah liew…so damn paiseh. I just walked into CMSK2 class thinking there’s class as usual. Forgot that this week is also assessment week for the last group. Which means I have no freakin lesson today. Which also means I have no freakin lesson till 3pm today. Which also means I can start working on the ORDS ER Diagram.

My trial version of Microsoft Visio has expired. Bleargh. Means I gotta work in school.

Now when I say I have short term memory, you know why.

Had breakkie with Rajes and Stella. Hmmm…the Business canteen’s chicken pie isn’t good. Not enough filling. Plus the crust is a little buttery.

wasting away

March 25, 2004 by Elisia

Nothing much today. Bought dinner from Pasta Mania. Since Wei En served me, she gave me a discount. Of course, like how a woman shops when she’s at the mall, I stopped by OP to check out the new stuff. Nothing much but I got myself a grey racer-back top. Yay! One more off my wishlist.

Couldn’t resist getting a My Little Pony from Toys R’ Us too. Hee…

Sis is highly irritable today. In one of her almost depression moods. Little bit then get irritated until going to cry that kinda pattern. She didn’t go to school. Just slept the whole day.

I don’t know. I have this unexplainable anger whenever I see her sleeping the whole day, not going to school. I feel she’s not helping herself. Just wasting her whole life away. If you know you won’t have enough sleep then why do you make yourself sleep in the wee hours of the morning. Don’t tell me you’re doing schoolwork. Half the time I see you doing other stuff. You don’t do your stuff, then panic when the deadline gets nearer. People start hounding you and you can’t take it.

Why? Why make yourself so miserable? You got a problem. You want to overcome the problem. Then start doing something to help yourself. But I guess I won’t really understand what she thinks. Depression is really complicated.
